Bio:
Name: Christopher Lawson
Alter-Ego: Durty Bo Dean
Born: Ozark, AL
Resides: Atlanta, GA
Chris Lawson was originally introduced to the world of hip hop by his brother Terry who often blessed him with opportunities to listen to lyrical greats such as LL Cool J and Kool Moe D. Just as any little brother would, Lil Chris looked up to his older brother doing everything in his power to emulate him until the age of 19 when opportunity struck. Chris' first opportunity to shine came while he was living in Tallahassee, FL when he chose to share his work with an independent group known as "5 Star!" From verse 1 Chris' smooth southern delivery and lyrical creativity impressed the group and Chris officially became one of the group members. After this first taste Chris was hooked and his drug of choice became that very microphone in which he had invisioned himself blessing time and time again. The tranformation that was taking place did not happen over night. However, as his creativity and understanding of the world and culture in which he was now immersed grew so did his persona. Ultimately Chris grew into the lyrical hitman we now know as Durty Bo Dean, a name loosely derived from the the "country bumpkin" turned "city boy" Jethro Bodine of the Beverly Hillbillies. "5 Star" came to and end, but by this time Durty had already become a presence in himself. Durty's trials and tribulations on this eight year grind has taught him one thing if nothing else and that's to kick in the doors to the industry if no one is there to answer the knock and that's exactly what he's done. So keep your eyes open and your ears to the street. There's a "Alabama Alligator" walking the sewers of the music scene in the ATL and his name is "Duty Bo Dean!"
Interview:
What has the reality of the struggles you've experienced taught you?
Durty: First and foremost to stay humble. Remember where you come from, where you are and where you want to be. In this industry those who are remembered are those who continued to grow in their craft. You've gotta be a student of the game man. There's a lesson around every corner and in every experience so gotta go and learn it. At the same time you've gotta have swaggar. There's gotta be something about you that sets you apart from the rest, but you've gotta have balance at the same time.
So you've got swag?
Durty: Hell yeah Durty got swag. Thank Terry. Lil Bruh did Big Bruh proud.
From our conversations it seems as if you're not quite where you want to be yet! What do you think is stopping you from achieving your goal?
Durty: Really man, ain't nothing stopping me. As long as I'm breathing and got a mic in my hand there's another opportunity so it aint ever over. True it's a little frustrating when you don't have the financial backing that some other artist have, but in the end I've gotta admit that I like the hard road. There's alot of people out there that think that success is an overnight thing and it aint. You've gotta be willing to kick in the door and go get what you want out of this. If not, then you wasting your time.
What's next?
Durty: It don't stop. I believe that I've gained a tremendous amount of respect from fans all over the world and on the underground scene. My progress hasn't stopped and my fanbase grows daily. It's only a matter of time before the streeets are mines. I'm ready for the show. Are you?
Last Words?
Durty: Yeah...Man the fuck Up. BITCHES!
